The future of work is already here. It's time our economy caught up.
The future of work is already here. It's time our economy caught up.
I'm honored to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of Freelancers Union.
More than 70 million Americans now participate in independent work. Freelancers create, build, teach, care, innovate, and power nearly every sector of our economy. Yet too many still lack access to affordable healthcare, benefits, legal protections, and the security every worker deserves.
As the daughter of Peruvian immigrants, a lifelong organizer, and a proud New Yorker, I've spent my career fighting for workers, artists, and communities too often left out of traditional systems. That's why I'm so excited to join this movement.
The old social contract wasn't built for today's workforce. Millions of us move between clients, platforms, projects, and careers—but our benefits and protections are still tied to a model of work that no longer reflects reality.
It's time for a new social contract—one where flexibility doesn't come at the expense of security.
That's the work ahead.
In the months to come, we'll fight for portable benefits, stronger protections, and a bigger voice for independent workers as technologies like AI reshape our economy. We'll expand our community, strengthen our resources, and make sure freelancers have a seat at every table where the future of work is being decided.
I hope to meet many of you in the months ahead. The future of work won't be built for freelancers—it will be built with freelancers.
I'm honored to be on that journey with you.
Join us on August 11 at 3 p.m. EST for an introductory Town Hall, where I'll introduce myself, discuss my vision for the future, and answer any questions you may have. Sign up today!
