The Top 5 Podcasts for Freelancers

It’s been a hectic week.

The coffee is brewing and you’ve got some time before your brain is fully functional. Is there anything productive to do while you sip your coffee, yawn, and rub the sleep out of your eyes for the next hour?

It’s moments like these that putting your own art aside and indulging in another’s creative output can inspire you to attack the work that you’ve got lined up.

For me, the right podcast can spur creativity, embolden with new ideas, and fill that void of silence that a lot of people (myself included) find a bit disconcerting.

Here are five podcasts that we think will help you reach your full freelance potential.

Do you have a favorite podcast that we’ve left out? Let us know in the comments section!

1. The Accidental Creative

Creative ideas don’t always come when you need them but the thought-provoking conversations on this podcast should get you off to a good start. Todd Henry’s voice bursts from the speakers with such enthusiasm that it’ll make you wonder who wants you to succeed more, you or him. Features podcasts on the work/life balance, committing to decisions, avoiding regrets, discovering your mission, as well as interviews with some of the more creative businesses leaders of our time.

2. The Freelance Web

This is what happens when two seasoned freelancers get together on a weekly basis to reflect on their longtime freelance careers. What we end up with is an honest, introspective, and oftentimes hilarious take on the trials and tribulations of freelance life. Sean Johnson and Liz Elcoate are both based out of the UK, but don’t think for a minute that this will make their conversations any less relevant to your life. Whether they’re discussing contracts, getting paid, side projects, or finding inspiration, there’s something here for everyone.

Michael O’Neal, host of the Solopreneur Hour, stays upbeat and positive about the future by featuring weekly guests from all walks of the freelance life. Whether they’re web designers, musicians, comedians, writers, or actors, these people have achieved the freelance dream and they’ve got an inspiring story to tell. They’ve been through it all and the Solopreneur Hour is a great resource for those in need of perspective. You’re not the only one, all freelancers have been there.

The folks over at Unmatched Style love podcasting so much that they decided to host not just one podcast, but five! Of the five that they offer, Draft and Bizcraft are the most active and useful. Draft focuses on the craft of web design while BizCraft emphasizes the business of it. Both podcasts are informative in their own right, but taken together they’ll turn any aspiring freelance web designer into a business-savvy web design professional.
