As reported by the Salon blog Broadsheet, the Labor Day cover story for US News and World Report is "mompreneurs," an icky word for an interesting phenomenon. It seems that nearly 75% of the country's 10 million women-owned businesses have one employee. Educated, skilled women who have kids are finding that working independently gives them the flexibility they need. The article profiles an organization called Moms for Profit that operates almost as a kind of guild. It helps women find work as consultants and supports and develops women-owned businesses.
