Are you an ambivert?
Most people assume that freelancers are introverts because we’re so good at working alone. But many of us -- myself included -- don’t consider ourselves either an introvert or extrovert. We’re somewhere in the middle.
Apparently, we’re called “ambiverts.”
A recent piece in Inc. magazine claims that ambiverts excel in many areas of life and business because of their ability to balance assertiveness with strong listening skills and intuition.
According to author Daniel Pink, ambiverts are attuned to their environments, knowing “when to speak up and when to shut up, when to push and when to hold back.”
Ambiverts have a “flexible pattern of talking and listening,” coming across as neither highly aggressive or overconfident, nor withdrawn or reserved like many introverts.
Find out if you’re an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert at Pink’s personality assessment test. (Yep, I got ambivert!)
I suspect many of you have the ambivert’s strong listening skills and assertiveness, which are key to working with demanding (and sometimes crazy) clients.
