Update on Freelancer Payment Protection Act

Our Freelancer Payment Protection Act is on the move!  In the Assembly, the bill has passed through the Labor Committee and Codes Committee and now rests in the Ways and Means Committee. And this was no easy feat. We are deeply grateful to Assembly Speaker Silver for sponsoring the bill, along with the 19 other co-sponsors. And, a personal shout-out to my Assemblyman, Keith Wright, who co-sponsored the bill, and, as Chair of the Assembly Labor Committee and member of the Assembly Codes Committee, helped steer the bill through. (I heart you, Assemblyman Wright!) And of course, many of these legislators signed on in support after meeting with Freelancers Union staff and members through in-district meetings and our recent Albany lobby day, where we described the legislation and members shared personal stories of how nonpayment has affected them. With just a few days left in the legislative session, contact your legislator right now to let him/her know how important this legislation is to you. (photo by Bill on Capitol Hill, via Flickr)
