Update: Meeting Minutes for March

The March 15 Monthly Member Meeting came and went on the heels of Daylights  Saving Time—leaving us with more hours in the day to work towards freelancer equality! Read the full meeting minutes. Our Director of Advocacy and Policy, Althea, led a quick brainstorm on our Political Action Committee (PAC) and how we can better encourage and educate members to give to the cause**. In my mind, donating to the PAC is another form of insurance we try to provide—a dollar a day keeps the deadbeats away! We’re launching a new Events Fundraising Committee at the end of this month, with a group of members spending the spring and summer pulling together a large PAC fundraising soiree. If you have nifty notions on what a fun (and lucrative) event would look like, stop by the informational meeting we’re hosting at Freelancers Union HQ in Brooklyn on Thursday, March 31, or leave your suggestions below. To wrap up the meeting, the New York District Meetings Working Group took the floor and led their fellow members in an excellent hour-long teach-in on “How to: Lobby Your Legislator.” Breaking into small groups, members role-played an encounter with a “Senator” and practiced speaking about the Freelancer Payment Protection Act in preparation for the district meetings we’re holding around the state this month. We hope to see you for the 6th official Monthly Member Meeting on Wednesday, April 13 at 6:30 pm. Kindly RSVP to ensure you get your fair share of garlic knots! _Kaitlyn Volunteer Coordinator Questions? Email knewman (at) freelancersunion (dot) org**_
