Tax Cut for NY Freelancers?
We are just bursting at the seams with good news these days! Okay, or at least steps-toward-good news. There’s still a recession, two wars, etc., etc. Mayor Bloomberg gave his State of the City (New York, that is) address this morning, and he proposed ending or reducing the unincorporated business tax. Nothing could sound less sexy, I know. But it looks like New York's days of double-dipping in your wallet are numbered. His proposal should help out 17,000 independent workers who have been paying taxes twice! If passed, this would save NY freelancers an several thousand dollars a year. (Freelancers: DO pass go! Do collect $200!) Sounds like economic stimulus to me. Will they start new businesses? Move back from Jersey City? Get health insurance? If you’re feeling like we’re feeling, go on and send Mayor Bloomberg a thanks. Maybe send flowers, too? (Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, City Hall, New York, NY 10007) Show him you’ve got your eye on him, because it isn’t law yet . . .
