Top Tips from the July Spark Event: Peer-to-Peer Business Workshop

For the July 1 Spark event we asked freelancers from all 18 cities to tweet their favorite tip of the evening with the hashtag #FreelanceSpark.

Even better? The best tip earned the winners' city a special treat (think snacks or beverages) at the August 5 "Happy Hour Networking" Spark!

LivelyGig's business tip really got to the heart of why so many appreciate the freelance life. Congratulations to LivelyGig and Spark Seattle, who will be receiving a perk for their Happy Hour Networking event this August!

A freelancer-client relationship need not be just about "the transaction", but also can be a genuine relationship. #FreelanceSpark #Seattle

Here are a few highlights from the July 1 Spark event "Peer-to-Peer Business Workshop"

You asked: What are other freelancers doing right that could help me improve my own freelance life?

Spark Los Angeles at Kleverdog suggests thinking of yourself as a project manager. Here is a picture of Spark L.A. thinking like project managers:

L.A's top tip? Set deadlines and work backwards from the due date, rewarding yourself as you complete each task.

Not to be outdone, Spark Minneapolis at CoCo Coworking came through with a pithy but impactful piece of advice: You have to be visible to be remembered.

San Francisco has always been a hub for artists, so it's not surprising that Spark S.F. at Impact Hub decided to take Peer-to-Peer Workshopping to the drawing board.

Check out their fantastic (and fantastically recorded) conversation around the best tools for a wide variety of freelance roles:

Down in Memphis, Spark attendees at Studio688 reminded us would-be Jack-of-all-trades, You can’t do it all! So, set some money aside and invest in letting people help YOU do what THEY do best.

(Nobody sings the Freelancer's Blues quite like Spark Memphis.)

Meanwhile, at The Yard in Brooklyn, freelancers were tasked with breaking projects down into miniscule pieces:

....Suddenly, it all seems so achievable!

Thanks for another amazing event, freelancers! Hope to see you in August!
