“Passion should always trump common sense” - Robert De Niro on life in the arts

Have you ever tried something new...and failed?

Of course you have. All of us have. It’s part of what makes us human. But more importantly, it’s what makes us successful freelancers.

No matter how you came into freelancing, chances are you’ve faced some roadblocks along the way.

But the thing about freelancers is we’ve got passion. And that passion gives us the strength to fail, get back on our feet, and keep chasing the prize.

As I was watching Robert De Niro’s recent commencement speech for NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, I was reminded that -- whether you freelance or not -- failure is just part of the deal. But that’s ok because as long as we stay true to our passion, “it’s not a bad place to start.”.
