Celebrate Independents Day

This week marks an important moment in the history of our freelance nation of workers: July 4th is Independents Day.

Independents Day is an annual event commemorating the anniversary of a worker’s assumption of independent statehood, usually after ceasing to be an employee or part of another company.

This not-so-official holiday is officially important to us as we celebrate individuals who have struck out on their own - a brave move in any economy. Take this time to reflect on your motivations for flying solo and applaud your talents and accomplishments.

Together we are growing a community to support each one of these independents, developing solidarity among freelancers to build mutual solutions, protections, and benefits.

In true patriotic spirit for this Independents Day, we celebrate the many freedoms our collective work labors for every day. You know…those ancient freelance freedoms we all dream of?

Freedom from want of affordable health care options

Freedom from fear of unpaid wages

Freedom of worship to the gods of the home office

Freedom of speech for shouting your talents from the rooftops

While you’re flipping burgers and thinking about which star spangled swim trunks to wear this week, remember to celebrate independents. Give hugs, give BBQ invitations, and join the movement.
