Looking Back at the Freelancers Union Benefit

benefitjoecasertocampbellmckellar.JPGThe Freelancers Union Benefit: a night of gratitude and celebration for another year spent advancing the future of independent work. On November 15, staff, members, and supporters of Freelancers Union gathered together at Housing Works Bookstore Café in New York City to honor some key partners in our work building new solutions for the changing workforce.

After a warm welcome address from Executive Director Sara Horowitz, attendees caught up with old friends, made new connections, and munched on an assortment of delicious hors d'oeuvres (mmm . . . fried mac‘n’cheese balls). benefitcheryldorsey.JPGThe evening’s main purpose, however, was to acknowledge a few of our allies. We honored New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Loosecubes founder and CEO Campbell McKellar with the Practical Revolutionary Award and the Squeaky Wheel Award, respectively. In between awards, keynote speaker Cheryl Dorsey, President of Echoing Green and a pioneer in the social entrepreneurship movement, discussed the importance of mutualism in today’s world.
