This fall, freelancers’ mailboxes were stuffed with the happy news that they’ll be expected to make an additional tax payment on November 2. Since we first mentioned it in July, we’ve all agreed that the new Metropolitan Commuter Transportation Mobility Tax (MCTMT) will be as fun to pay as it is to say. It doesn’t take some policy sharpshooter to point out what a pain in our quarterly-estimating butts this will be, since it’s due separately from quarterly taxes. But I did hear from the policy sharpshooters who sit near me in the office that they’re at work studying its economic implications. But, it’s best to be prepared.
